The Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP), also known as the Subclass 188 visa, was permanently closed as of 31 July 2024. While the BIIP has been closed to new applications, existing subclass 188 visa holders can qualify for permanent residency through the Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass 888) pathway, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.

National Innovation Visa

The National Innovation and Investment visa was announced as a replacement for the Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP). The NIV pathway prioritizes top entrepreneurs, investors, global tech talent, and researchers. The National Innovation visa serves a broader purpose, supporting innovation by creating job opportunities, promoting research, and fostering innovation. To apply for NIV, applicants must first submit an EOI (Expression of Interest) and get an invitation.

Eligibility Criteria for an Australian Business Visa

The eligibility criteria for the Australian Business visa are as follows:

Eligibility criteria for Short-term (Subclass 600) visa

To be eligible for a short-term (Subclass 600) visa, one must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Must be outside Australia at the time of applying
  • Must travel with a genuine intent of visiting for business purposes (attending business meetings or events)
  • Proof of intent to return to your home country after your intended stay
  • Proof of sufficient funds to support your stay in the country

Eligibility criteria for a long-term Business visa

To be eligible for a long-term business visa, one must fulfil the following criteria:
