Durham University, officially the University of Durham, is a public university located in Durham, England.

Founded in 1832 and integrated in 1837 by royal charter, it is considered the third-oldest English university, next only to Oxford and Cambridge. Its main activities are managed by its 26 academic departments of the university and 17 colleges.

Durham University is spread over an area of 563 acres, which also includes a portion of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one ancient monument, five buildings that are listed grade-one, and 68 grade-two listed buildings.
