Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is a private university located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It came into being after the Carnegie Institute of Technology and the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research were merged.
In 1967, it got its present name. The university consists of seven colleges and independent schools: Mellon College of Science, Tepper School of Business, Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences, The College of Engineering, College of Fine Arts, the School of Computer Science, and Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy.
