What is the UK Skilled Worker Dependant Visa?

The UK Skilled Worker Dependant Visa facilitates eligible family members of a Skilled Worker in the UK to join them. As a dependant, you are authorized to work, live, and study in the UK for the same duration as the primary applicant's visa.

Spouses, partners, and children below the age of 18 can apply for the visa. Each dependant must apply individually for the visa. 

As a dependant, you can apply for permanent residency in the UK through ILR or Indefinite Leave to Remain after staying in the UK for 5 years. You can also apply for British citizenship after 1 year of having the UK ILR. 

The UK Skilled Worker visa has a validity of five years, and the dependant visa is granted for the same duration. 

Note: The UK Tier 2 visa has been replaced by the Skilled Worker and Health & Care Worker visas. The Tier 2 Dependant Visa is now known as the Skilled Worker Dependant Visa.

  • Your child should be below 18 years of age, even if they were born in the UK
  • If your child is more than 18 years old, they should have permission to 'leave to enter' or 'leave to remain' in the UK as your dependent.

  • A valid passport
  • Negative Tuberculosis (TB) test results
  • No criminal records
  • Certificate of marriage or civil partnership 
  • Evidence of the relationship to the primary applicant 
  • Birth Certificate for children below 18 years
  • Proof of children who are more than 16 years old to demonstrate that they are not living an independent life
