Subclass 462 visa allows Indians to stay and work in Australia for one year. The Australian government recently added India to the list of countries and allotted 1000 visa slots.

Australia Working Holiday Visa for Indians 
 

Australia will open the Ballot process for the Working holiday program on 16 September 2024. The countries listed under the ballot process are India, China, and Vietnam. Visa Subclass 462 is granted to people who want to work and holiday in Australia. Depending on the conditions related to it, an individual can apply for this visa up to three times. 

India is allotted 1000 places for the current year.

Eligibility for Indians to apply for a Subclass 462 Visa
 

  • Be an Indian Citizen

  • Age between 18 -30 years(when apply for visa)

  • Not held Work holiday visa earlier; if so, should be meeting the conditions of second work holiday visa.

  • Applicant must be outside Australia.

  • University degrees, diplomas, and other graduate certificates will be accepted with a minimum of 2 years of study (above post-secondary level). The policy will be released specifically for India. This is as per the current requirement they have for other countries in this visa program.

  • Family members cannot be included in this program; to be applied separately if they are eligible and meet the same criteria.

 

Requirements to apply for Subclass 462 Visa

  • English requirement: It is not mandatory to take the English exam as highlighted. 

    • completed a relevant approved English language test or assessment ( Average band of 4.5 including all 4 components in IELTS general or if PTE 30)

    • have undertaken relevant education- All Primary years in English and At least 3 years in English. So, studying in English will be a substitute for Functional English and will not be mandatory to appear for the test.

  • Proof of Funds: This is usually about AUD5,000 for the initial stay, plus the fare to where you are going after leaving Australia. We recommend 4.5 to 5.5 Lakhs in readily available INR funds before applying for a visa.

  • Health insurance: May need to complete health requirements. Health insurance is recommended. 

  • Police Verification: Meet the character requirement by providing police clearances from countries stayed for more than 12 months in the last 10 years. Biometrics may also be required for some based on the applying country.

  • Pay your debts to the Australian Government (if any): If you or any family members owe the Australian government money, you or they must have paid it back or arranged to pay it back.

  • Australian Immigration History: Not having a visa canceled or an application refused - immigration history will be considered while deciding on an application, which means one might not be eligible for this visa if they have had a visa canceled or refused.

Steps to apply for an Australian Subclass 462 Visa

 

  • Step 1: Apply for the ballot and wait for selection. Timelines and allowed rounds and open duration of the ballot- Not known currently. The cap agreed is 1000.
     
  • Step 2: Upon selection, Apply for a visa application with all documents required within the time allowed. Usually, 1-5 months

The processing fee for an Australia working holiday 462 visa is ‘AUD 650’.

Conditions of Subclass 462 Visa

The conditions of the subclass 462 visa that need to be met are as follows: 

  • Applicants' ages must range from 18 to 30 (both years included).
  • Applicants should not have been declined or canceled a visa earlier.
  • Applicants should be residents of an eligible country.
  • The applicant should not have arrived in Australia earlier on subclass 462 or visa subclass 417.
  • Applicants should have arranged adequate financial resources for their stay in Australia.
  • Applicants should not be accompanied by dependents.
  • Applicants should have made any debts that they owe to the government of Australia.
  • Applicants need to meet the requirements of health and character that the Australian government mandates.
  • Applicants must apply from outside Australia.
  • Holders of these visas are allowed to work for an overall period of 12 months and should not have been employed with a single employer for over six months.
  • The compensation should be consistent with the award rates and conditions of Australia.
  • Applicants can apply for visas several times, depending on the existing conditions.
  • Holders of these visas must meet the existing requirements of health and character as necessitated by the Australian government.
