Ontario in Canada held its first tech draw on 12th July. It invited 1,623 EE candidates for a provincial nomination for Canadian Permanent Residence.

The invited candidates in the 12th July draw had scores ranging between 439 and 459. These candidates have created their Express Entry profiles between 12th July 2018 and 12th July 2019.

Earlier this month, the OINP (Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program) had announced that it would hold Tech Draws. These draws would help meet the growing workforce needs of the technology sector in the province.

Some of the major tech hubs in Canada are located in Ontario in locations like Toronto, Ottawa, and Waterloo.

According to the CBRE Group, in 2017 Toronto created more tech jobs as compared to the San Francisco Bay Area in the US.

To be eligible for the Tech Draws in Ontario, candidates should have a valid profile in the EE pool. Their profiles should have been created under the FSWP (Federal Skilled Worker Program) or the CEC (Canadian Experience Class), as per CIC News.

Ontario’s Tech Draws are conducted under the Human Capital Priorities Stream of the OINP.

You do not need to have a job offer to apply under the Human Capital Priorities Stream.

Ontario’s Tech Draws look for candidates in the EE pool who meet the eligibility requirements of the HCPS. These candidates should have at least 1 year full-time or an equivalent in part-time continuous work experience in any of the occupations below:

  • Software Engineers & Designers (NOC-2173)
  • Computer Programmers & Interactive Media Developers (NOC-2174)
  • Web Designers & Developers (NOC-2175)
  • Database Analysts and Data Administrators (NOC-2172)
  • Computer and Information Systems Managers (NOC-0213)
  • Computer Engineers (NOC-2147)
