Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Programme (SINP) is expanding its Existing Work Permit stream in order to provide temporary foreign workers in lower- and intermediate-skilled jobs with the opportunity to apply for permanent residency by meeting remaining programme requirements.
Through this development, the government aims on improving employee retention and directly addressing labor market shortages that Saskatchewan employers now face.
The government is also helping Saskatchewan's businesses and economy by giving displaced Ukrainians and other foreign workers more opportunity to become permanent residents.
Candidates applying must have a work permit to be eligible, the permits are: A francophone mobility work permit, a work permit supported by the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), or, in the case of newly arriving immigrants from Ukraine, a Canadian Ukrainian Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) visa.
“The expansion to the SINP program is a good first step as it enables us to support our employees in the immigration process while also helping us fill vital positions” stated Brennen Mills.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is committed on reducing bureaucracy in the SINP nomination process and granting the province full control over determining whether an applicant is eligible to reside in Saskatchewan.
“The province of Saskatchewan is experiencing record-high rates of population increase, and immigration has been a major factor in that. We are well on our way to our goal of 1.4 million residents by 2030” stated provincial Immigration Minister Jeremy Harrison.
“Saskatchewan needs more workers to fill job vacancies in all sectors of the economy,” said Jason Aebig, chief executive officer of the Greater Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.
The province presented the Saskatchewan Immigration Accord in July of last year. It was released after an agreement between Quebec and Ottawa.
As per the agreement, Saskatchewan would have the authority to choose its own immigration levels, choose proficient immigrants in line with the demands of the labor market, revive the family class immigration route, and take charge of the planning and provision of settlement and integration assistance.
