The student visa in Japan is a long-term visa that facilitates international students' pursuit of education in the country. The visa is accepted by all higher educational institutions in Japan, including schools, universities, and vocational institutions.

Anyone who wants to study at an educational institution in Japan has to have a student visa.

The Japanese government offers a visa exemption policy for international students from multiple countries. However, the exemption is applicable for short-term purposes like visits, tourism, conducting business, or participating in a conference.

If the candidate is exempted from having a visa but wishes to enter Japan for more than 90 days, they must apply for the visa according to the travel intent.

  • Landing Permit

The Landing Permit replaces the visa and facilitates the candidate's legal stay in Japan.

  • Residence Card

If the candidate enters specific airports, they will receive a Japan Residence Card upon entry. If the candidate enters through other airports, they can obtain the Residence Card at the municipal offices of Japan.

  • Re-Entry Permit

If the candidate wants to leave and re-enter Japan during the validity of their visa, they can apply for a re-entry permit at the local immigration office in Japan.
