Ohio Government will be offering assistance to legal immigrants in the State to obtain US Jobs skills. This has been announced by John Kasich the Ohio Governor. He has signed an Executive Order to create a new department in this regard. This is the Office of Opportunities for New Americans.
OONA will be under the Ohio Department Services Agency. It will assist legal immigrants to obtain the skills required for US jobs. It will also support their transition into the local communities. The program is aimed at legal immigrants, as quoted by the USA Today.
Nevertheless, Ohio officials will not seek paperwork for the process. This is with regards to the identification of illegal immigrants.
Ohio Governor is a staunch supporter of law-abiding immigrants who are undocumented. He is however not in favor of offering then Citizenship in the US.
John Kasich had also recently pressed the US Congress to nullify the termination of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals by Trump. DACA safeguards kids of undocumented immigrants from deportation who had arrived in the US with their parents. Ohio has 4,000 immigrants protected under the program.
Several immigrants are arriving in Ohio with top education and highly coveted job skills. However, there are several others who require assistance, asserted Kasich. It needs to be ensured that they obtain employment and are not forced to leave, he added.
The Ohio Governor values the immigrants in the State. They form a crucial part of the workforce in Ohio he said. They also add great energy and vitality to the US communities, he added. The Columbus’ Somali community is one of the largest in the US. This community is definitely among the beneficiaries of the Office of Opportunities for New Americans.
